What is Root Boost

Root Boost is the category given to a range of RLF products designed to focus entirely on the early vigour and healthy development of the root system.

These products have been engineered to deliver nutrients to where it can best support the development of root structure and root mass so the plant gets the best possible start. Three unique products have been identified for this Product Category, and each provides a different nutritional pathway. Root Boost fertiliser for seeds, for leaf and for roots and plant parts.

RLF is leading the way with a range of products specifically focused to boost roots.

Three Different Nutritional Pathways for Roots

Interceptor XS is a Root Boost seed priming fertiliser. It has a unique RLF-developed seed delivery system (SDS) to prime or imbibe the seed with a multi-nutrient formulation. It places strong emphasis on early support for the root system.

Interceptor XF is a Root Boost Ultra Foliar fertiliser. It is a High-analysis Broad-spectrum solution (HBS) that delivers nutrients through the leaf. It is highly concentrated and
applies the optimum amount of 12 nutrients with a single application. This gives the plant the ability to guard against soil nutrient variability and deficiency, and ensures greater plant protection, increased growth and improved yield qualities because of the strong support for the root system.

Unidip is a Root Boost nutrient charger that improves vegetative reproduction and seedling establishment. It charges tissue with an ionic form of essential nutrients including increased levels of nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium and trace elements. This ensures that the newly grown tissue has adequate and balanced levels of all essential elements. As a consequence plant establishment is more vigorous. This unique RLF product is versatile and can be used for dipping or soaking billets, tubers, plant parts and young tree roots as part of the vegetative process.

Major Benefits of a Root Boost Product

  • increased availability of phosphorus (inorganic phosphorus) of the seed, by up to 300% when compared with untreated seed. This is because approximately 70% of seed phosphorus is as phytic acid and is unavailable during early germination. The higher availability of phosphorus ‘kick-starts’ germination, by supplying energy for robust growth and the setting of higher yield potential.
  • increased rhizosphere activity and exudation of organic acids because it releases soil-based phosphate bound to calcium (in alkaline soils), or soil-based phosphate that is bound to aluminium, iron and manganese in acid soils. The increased rhizosphere activity results in faster root system growth that protects the plant from disease when contrasted with disease susceptibility experienced by a plant with a slow growing root system.
  • nutrient deficiency problems are solved because every crop, and every plant has a different nutrient need. It helps farmers overcome the day-to-day reality of not knowing exactly what these specific needs are. The Broad-spectrum Root Boost nutrient package fixes many of these problems. It has been engineered to provide a highly concentrated leaf-applied foliar product that has changed the way in which nutrient deficiency issues are managed.
  • building organic matter and natural soil fertility in cropping soils through the enrichment of crop waste materials and root mass. This is a cost effective and efficient end result of Root Boost foliar. It delivers a root mass that has greater size and volume, meaning that it returns more matter to the soil. This is good news for the future as the nutrient status of the plant at harvest, returns more nutrients and organic matter to
    the soil.

strong and healthy and resist the adverse effects of disease and climate
  • improves NPK and soil elements uptake in later stages of growth
  • builds bigger root systems and organic soil matter
